Editorial & data policy
Money and tax content is "Your Money or Your Life" territory. We hold it to a higher bar than a typical blog.
Sourcing
- US tax rules are sourced from IRS.gov (e.g. Publication 54, the FEIE figure, FBAR/FinCEN 114, FATCA Form 8938).
- Tax treaties and totalization (Social Security) agreements come from the IRS and SSA official lists.
- Country residency and banking rules come from official immigration/government sources, corroborated where possible.
- Exchange rates come from ECB reference rates (via Frankfurter) as a dated snapshot.
Verification & draft status
Every country guide carries a status. A guide marked Draft has not yet been verified against official sources and is excluded from search indexing until it is. Verified guides show the date we last confirmed the data, and we re-check on a regular cadence (US tax figures at least annually, since several index each year).
We do not publish numbers we haven't sourced. Where a figure isn't yet confirmed, we leave it out rather than guess — an omission is safer than a wrong number on a money decision.
Independence
Affiliate commissions never influence our recommendations or rankings. We include honest "where this gets people" sections on country guides specifically because they serve readers better than a sales pitch. See our affiliate disclosure.
